It was a historic and action-packed weekend!
As millions of viewers dialed in to watch The Preakness, horse racing fans around the world were also switched on to OpenSea, catching the live auction bidding of the first-ever Preakness X ZED RUN limited edition NFT art collection.
The collection marked the first of many ZED RUN collaborations in partnership with The Preakness and Medium Rare. Attracting a younger audience to the legacy sport of horse racing through the creation of NFTs capturing historic moments has turned out to be quite the winning strategy.
Within just a few days, seventeen 1-of-1 NFTs each paired with a ZED RUN Genesis Z10 digital racehorse sold, totalling approximately $400,000 (USD). Winning bids for The Woodland Vase NFT & Physical Trophy and the Special Edition: Zed Run x Preakness – Nakamoto Montage & Z1 Nakamoto outranked the others, selling at 31ETH and 47.25ETH respectively.
“Partnership with The Preakness and Medium Rare opens up a new world for brands to explore and expand entertainment experiences for people,” says CEO and Co-Founder of Virtually Human, Chris Laurent says. “These opportunities enable us to create innovative ways for our existing communities to come together, make history and shape the future.”
“Partnering with Zed Run on our limited edition Preakness release was groundbreaking on both sides. We expanded our universe to a younger, digitally-savvy audience and Zed Run was able to bridge the digital world to a Triple Crown event that has a 146 year history,” says David Wilson, CMO 1/ST. He added, “It was a win-win.”
