In the span of just a few moments, Zabeel Stables ran the full gamut of ZED RUN emotions, a worst-to-first rollercoaster ride that ended with his stables first ever tournament victory.
With just moments left in a recent ‘Keep On Winning’ conditional Z100-199 qualifying round, his racehorse – Matariki, a Z112 Buterin Pacer Colt – was on the outside looking in at the qualifying field.
Originally making the cut, an update of the leaderboard left Matariki sitting in 193rd place, last out of the tournament that allows for 192 racehorses to move on.
With the qualifying round clock nearing zero, a last-second refresh of the leaderboard moved Matariki into 192nd place. A hot string of finals round races later and Matariki was crowned tournament champion.
“I was totally shocked,” Zabeel Stables says. “I couldn't believe after finishing last in qualifying that there was any possible chance of winning.”
It was a last second decision to breed Matariki and enter it in the conditional ‘Keep on Winning’ racing event.
The result? His first-ever tournament win, and the .3722 ETH prize pool share that came with it.
“This goes to prove that regardless of your stable size and budget, conditional racing works.”
Zabeel says his advice to fellow ZED Headz would be that they ensure they’re utilising available community resources for the best chance at success.
“Keep building a stable and keep grinding,” Zabeel Stables says.
