In ZED Champions, augments are equipable items that boost your horse’s abilities. Used strategically, they can turn a steady competitor into a champion.
Each horse has three augment slots, starting with randomly equipped common augments. These boosts enhance speed, endurance, and adaptability, helping your stable stay competitive. There are three types of Augments:
- Passive: These provide simple, straightforward boosts.
- Situational: These activate only under certain race conditions; like boosting speed if the horse is in last place or needs to hold the lead for a certain time.
- Progressive: Performance-based triggers benefits based on race conditions; like boosting speed if the horse is in last place and needs to hold the lead for a certain time or place in the top five for three consecutive races.
Whether you’re a hands-on strategist optimising every race or a casual player looking for a simple boost, there’s an augment type for you.

ZED Champions Alpha Experience - One Week In!
We’re now one week into the second Alpha playtest, and the feedback rolling in has been incredibly valuable. Players are digging into the mechanics, asking great questions, and helping to refine the game in ways that only hands-on experience can provide.
It’s been revitalising to see the enthusiasm as testers crack open the game and start to see the vision come to life. From testing breeding strategies to experimenting with augments and refining racing approaches, the depth of engagement has been inspiring.
So far, playtesters have shared detailed insights on:
- Game mechanics – How augments, racing pools, and retirement are playing out in real-time.
- Usability – What’s working well and where friction needs smoothing.
- Engagement – What’s keeping players hooked and where we can improve
This phase is all about iteration and improvement. We're taking feedback seriously, fine-tuning core mechanics, and ensuring every system works smoothly before Phase III - Open Beta and then launch!
